Caddie Manual

Designed by the Western Golf Association, this Caddie Manual provides valuable insight about caddying and an understanding of what to expect as a caddie. Carrying someone’s clubs and assisting them around the course is an important part of the game of golf and a rewarding job and provides an opportunity to meet successful and influential people and to potentially qualify for a college scholarship.

Caddying is part of golf’s heritage, “the way golf was meant to be played,” and part of its future. It is also a great way to learn the game of golf.

  • Playing the game of golf can only strengthen your knowledge about golf and can help make you an outstanding caddie.
Assessing a Typical Caddie Day
  • Caddies are expected to arrive 30-45 minutes before their scheduled loop time.
  • Once your golfer, or golfers, arrive, take a moment to introduce yourself and ask questions about the upcoming round.
  • Caddies will be given a Gatorade and Protein Bar before their loop begins.
The typical round lasts between 4 and 4.5 hours.
  • Keeping a wet towel, tees, scorecards, ball markers, and divot repair tools are a requirement for each caddie.
  • At the conclusion of the round, be sure that all personal belongings of the golfer are back in their bag, including clubs and range finders.
Uniform
  • Khaki shorts or pants along with a white polo shirt.
  • Each caddie will pay for their own bib and hat. It is each caddie’s responsibility to make sure they remember to bring their bib before each round.
  • A white polo will be required at all times. Jackets, sweaters, and other outerwear are permitted on cooler days, but must be approved by the Caddie Manager. Non-club gear will not be permitted (ie Detroit Lions hoodie).
